Beyond Symptoms: Focusing on the Whole Person
While many modern therapies focus on fixing “problems,” Humanistic Therapy is about understanding the person behind the symptoms. It is based on the belief that everyone has a natural capacity for growth and the internal resources to heal—sometimes, we just need the right environment to unlock them.
In my practice at Counselling Therapy Madrid, I use a humanistic approach to help you explore your unique experience of the world, especially the challenges of finding your place in a new culture or navigating a life transition.
The Core Pillars of My Approach
Humanistic therapy isn’t about me being the “expert” who tells you how to live. Instead, it is a partnership built on three essential foundations:
- Empathy: I strive to see your world through your eyes, without judgment, to understand your struggles from the inside out.
- Unconditional Positive Regard: You are provided with a safe, supportive space where you can be completely honest without fear of being criticized or labeled.
- Congruence (Genuineness): I show up as a real person in our sessions. This authenticity helps build the trust necessary for deep, transformative work.
Is Humanistic Therapy Right for You?
This approach is particularly powerful if you feel a sense of “lostness” or if you are struggling with your identity as an international resident in Spain. It is highly effective for:
- Self-Esteem & Identity: Developing a stronger sense of who you are outside of your job or family roles.
- Existential Questions: Navigating feelings of meaninglessness, isolation, or the “big” life choices.
- Relationship Issues: Understanding how you relate to others by first understanding how you relate to yourself.
- Personal Growth: Moving beyond “surviving” to “thriving” in your personal and professional life.
A Space to Be Heard
With over 25 years of experience in the Spanish health system, I have seen how the “human” element is often the most vital part of the healing process. Whether we meet at my office in Puente de Vallecas or via online video, the goal is the same: to create a relationship where you feel truly seen and heard.
When you feel safe enough to be yourself, real change begins.
