A Path Rooted in Real-World Experience
My journey into psychology didn’t start in a lecture hall. It started on the building sites of Bristol, where I began working as a bricklayer at age 16. While my days were spent on the building sites, my world was being reshaped by the realities of the 1980s and 90s.
During that time, I watched as heroin addiction and the HIV/AIDS epidemic ravaged my peer group. Seeing friends navigate profound suffering forced me to look at myself and how I was able to help.
Bridging the Gap Between Experience and Science
That early exposure to trauma and addiction changed my trajectory. I moved from the physical work of building houses to the psychological work of helping people rebuild their lives.
I went on to earn an MSc in Health Psychology and completed postgrad training in CBT and Humanistic Therapies, ensuring that my “on-the-ground” understanding was backed by rigorous clinical training. For over 25 years, I have lived and worked in Madrid, gaining extensive experience within the Spanish health system, prison system and NGOs. This unique vantage point allows me to help my clients navigate not just their internal struggles, but also the specific cultural and systemic challenges of living in Spain.
